Where Voices Meet and Part

Program Notes :

Where Voices Meet and Part is an immersive exploration of the importance of human connections. The piece begins with the solo voice of the vocalist, whose sound—through electronic processes—expands and transforms into multiple voices played through speakers. This shifting, layered vocal texture demonstrates how a single voice can evolve into many, mirroring the power of an individual to spark collective action. Inspired by folk songs historically used to coordinate work, this piece emphasizes the idea that, together, we can overcome challenges that might otherwise be insurmountable. The audience is invited to become active participants by playing custom-made ocarinas. Each instrument, tuned to a specific pitch, allows anyone to contribute their voice to the evolving harmony, reinforcing the notion that every voice, and every action, matters. With Where Voices Meet and Part, I invite you to reflect on the transformative power of collective action and the beauty that emerges when we come together as a community.
